故事发生在当代拉萨的三个家庭两代人之间。一辈子奉献给藏戏团的戏师土登接连遭受打击：大儿子索朗背着他辞去公职创业，负债累累；小儿子扎西说不想做医生想唱藏戏；大女儿曲宗也面临着恋爱困境。藏医旦增筹划与即将退休的妻子乔燕茹去大陆享受退休生活，不料妻子提出离婚，回藏公干的女儿达珍则面临家庭和事业的双重压力。即将退役的马术队员久美面临着运动员生涯的最后抉择，小妹格桑竟然从牧区偷跑到拉萨，执意要报考飞行员。最后索朗和达珍从矛盾不断到相互理解通力合作，决定共同创业；扎西在援藏医生的帮助下找准了职业道路；而曲宗也收获了属于自己的幸福，久美放弃了稳定的机会决心奋力一搏，格桑战胜困难踏上了学习飞行之路。
